Types of applications
1. Coalition and common app

This process is mostly for private colleges and universities.

By filling out one of these applications, the student will be able to apply to any associated college or university.

The Common app was founded in 1975 while the Coalition app was founded in 2015, therefore one has been around for longer and has been utilized more.

2. Public school applications

Many of the public colleges and universities have their own state system application.
​​

This kind of application has a much smaller scope than the Coalition or Common app.
​​

In most cases when a college or university accepts this kind of application, they do not accept any other kind, (compared to the other applications in which they are usually replaceable with one another).
